A Mi-8 helicopter carrying shift workers overturned during landing in Yamal

The rotorcraft was following the Salekhard - Panayevsk - Yar-Sale route

A Mi-8 helicopter of the Yamal airline carrying shift workers on board made a hard landing and overturned onto its side near the village of Panayevsk in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO), falling about 400–500 meters short of the landing site. There were 10 people on board, including three crew members. The incident was reported by a number of Telegram channels.

The helicopter was operating a flight on the Salekhard — Panayevsk — Yar-Sale route. One person sustained a head injury. Sources differ in their assessment of the severity: according to SHOT, the injured person was hospitalized, while REN TV and Baza report that hospitalization was not required.

The Novy Urengoy Transport Prosecutor's Office has organized an inspection in connection with the incident.

The Mi-8 is a Soviet multipurpose helicopter developed in the 1960s and still remains one of the most widely produced in the world. In Arctic conditions, it remains the main air transport for delivering shift crews to remote fields: it is designed to carry up to 24 passengers or 4 tons of cargo and is operated at temperatures down to −50 °C.
