US oil blockade: Aeroflot temporarily suspends flights to Cuba

The reason for the suspension of flights is the fuel crisis and the shortage of aviation kerosene

Aeroflot has announced the suspension of flights to Cuba due to the fuel crisis and the shortage of aviation kerosene on the island. The last flight from Havana to Moscow took place on February 16. The final flight from Varadero to the Russian capital will take place on February 21.

From February 24, all subsequent flights in these directions will be canceled.

The fuel shortage became known on February 6, when the Cuban government warned international airlines about the problem caused by the US oil blockade.

In an official notification to crews (NOTAM) distributed by the José Martí International Airport in Havana, it is stated that the shortage of aviation kerosene will affect all international airports in the country.

The Russian Ambassador to Cuba, Viktor Koronelli, assured that Russians will be able to resume flights to Cuba after a temporary restriction. He announced that Rosaviatsiya is negotiating the possibility of refueling Russian aircraft en route to the island.
