A flare of the penultimate power class occurred on the Sun on February 9. This was reported at the Institute of Applied Geophysics of the FGBU "IPG".
At 05:27 Moscow time, an M2.8 flare lasting 30 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range in group of spots 4366 (N17W56).
The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI and ISZF also reported that the geomagnetic situation is now calm. No magnetic storms are expected in the next 2-3 days.
Specialists observed a partial resumption of activity in spot group 4366, which previously updated the record of the XXI century in the number of M and X class flares. However, the region has moved out of the geoeffective position (opposite the Earth) and has shifted strongly to the edge of the Sun. If large flares occur, they will almost certainly be an aesthetic spectacle, without affecting our planet.
