The Rostec State Corporation is preparing to premiere a new multiple launch rocket system "Sarma", which will become one of the central novelties of the World Defense Show in Saudi Arabia. According to Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the corporation's weapons cluster, in an interview with TASS, the new system is characterized by increased mobility and lower weight while maintaining combat effectiveness comparable to the "Tornado-S" MLRS.
According to Ozdoev, the combination of both systems - "Sarma" and "Tornado-S" - will provide greater flexibility in the use of rocket artillery and increase the effectiveness of hitting protected targets with minimal ammunition consumption. He noted that the new platform will be the most modern in its class.
"Sarma" retains a caliber of 300 mm, but has six guides instead of twelve, like the "Tornado-S". This design solution significantly reduced the weight of the combat vehicle and increased its cross-country ability. The installation is capable of coordinating actions as part of a group, distributing targets and delivering synchronized strikes.
Like the "Tornado-S", the new system uses the latest generation of guided missiles, which have proven their effectiveness in the special military operation zone. Due to its reduced dimensions and digital fire control system, "Sarma" can quickly change positions, reducing the time between a volley and a change of firing line.
According to developers, the appearance of "Sarma" will expand the capabilities of Russian rocket artillery, combining the accuracy and range of "Tornado-S" with the maneuverability of light systems.
