Russian military receive new "Kaplya" warheads for FPV drones

Thermobaric grenades weighing 4 kg with an explosively formed penetrator are capable of overcoming anti-drone protection

New combat elements for FPV drones have begun to be supplied to the Russian army — thermobaric munitions weighing 4 kg with an explosively formed penetrator called "Kaplya".

In essence, "Kaplya" is close in its operating principle to shaped-charge warheads, but has design differences that ensure the formation of an explosively formed penetrator from a copper liner under the action of a directed explosion.

Unlike classic shaped charges, for the effective formation and use of the penetrator, such a warhead must detonate at a certain distance from the target (for example, an armored personnel carrier). This completely negates the effectiveness of widely used anti-drone protective structures on vehicles — nets, "mangals," and similar barriers. In addition, "Kaplya" surpasses traditional shaped-charge munitions in behind-armor effect.

Thermobaric warheads weighing 4 kg provide a powerful volumetric explosion and high pressure, making them an effective means against fortified positions and concentrations of manpower.
