The company "Rosseti Yantar" has completed the modernization of the "Kosmodemyanskaya" substation in Kaliningrad, increasing its capacity by 20% — from 41 to 50 megavolt-amperes. This was reported in the press service of "Rosseti North-West".
The reconstruction of the power center has increased the reliability of power supply for 10 thousand residents of the city, as well as for the largest broiler poultry farm in the region. The new equipment has already been put into operation and is functioning normally.
According to company representatives, increasing the capacity of the substation will allow connecting new consumers in the actively developing microdistrict named after Alexander Kosmodemyansky, where there is a growth in housing and social construction.
This is especially important in the context of the peculiarities of the Kaliningrad region's power system, which, after the disconnection of the Baltic countries from the BRELL ring, operates in an isolated mode, providing itself with electricity completely independently. In such conditions, the stability and flexibility of the network infrastructure become critical for the energy security of the region.
Kaliningrad has a powerful generation base — the total installed capacity of power plants exceeds 1.9 GW, but the reliable operation of distribution networks, including modernized substations, remains an important factor in sustainable energy supply and further development of the enclave's economy.
