Scammers have started using new fraud schemes with shared trips from remote locations, the Russian Interior Ministry warned. According to the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies, fraudsters post ads looking for fellow travelers in chats and specialized communities.
After receiving a response, the attackers transfer communication to messengers and, under the pretext of booking a seat, send phishing links to victims. The goal is to obtain personal data and access to users' financial resources.
The Interior Ministry recommends that Russians plan their trips in advance and use the services of only official carriers. Experts advise not to follow links from strangers and to check the legality of offers through official websites and applications of transport companies.
This scheme has become especially dangerous for residents of remote regions, where the choice of trusted carriers is limited. Following simple safety rules helps reduce the risk of fraud and protect personal data when traveling.
