Steel Garlands: T-72B3M Tank Protection Enhanced in an Unusual Way

The combat vehicle is covered from drones by an iron "fur coat"

The National Guard has shown an unusual modification of the T-72B3M tanks, completely changing the appearance of the combat vehicle. The hull and turret are covered with a dense layer of metal cables and chains, hanging down in long bundles and forming a kind of "fur coat."

New protection for the T-72B3M tank

The photo clearly shows that the cables are fixed around the perimeter of the turret and the rear of the hull. The main gun of the T-72B3M was brought out without restrictions on the aiming angles, and the "garlands" are mounted so as not to interfere with the operation of the gun and sighting systems.

Judging by the design, the elements are on a rigid frame and can freely deflect upon contact. Such tanks have already been dubbed "hedgehogs" and "dandelions" for their peculiar appearance. But in this case, it was possible to achieve an unprecedented level of "shagginess", requiring some new nicknames.

Tanks draped in steel garlands are sneaking up to the positions. Special "surprises" are lying in the packs, targeted and not subject to return.

Note that this protection works as a remote screen: when a munition or drone approaches, contact occurs not with the armor, but with the cables, which reduces the likelihood of penetration and premature detonation of the warhead.

An additional effect of the ingenious protection is visual camouflage. The blurred contours of the hull and turret make it difficult to recognize the tank against the background of the forest, especially in winter.
