Public transport may become free on New Year's Eve throughout Russia

State Duma deputies sent a proposal to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation

A group of State Duma deputies from the New People faction proposed making public transport free on New Year's Eve at the federal level. A letter with the corresponding initiative was sent to the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Andrei Nikitin.

Parliamentarians propose to allow free travel on all types of urban transport in the period from 20:00 on December 31 to 06:00 on January 1. This practice exists in Moscow, the appeal says.

Now the main problem in the regions is the lack of a unified approach to the organization of transportation during the holidays, since municipal authorities do not provide subsidies for private carriers. To solve it, it is necessary to develop a mechanism for compensating for lost income.

Deputies believe that free travel on New Year's Eve will make festive events more accessible to all citizens.
