Import substitution "on the fly": Rosatom confirms launch of Turkish NPP "Akkuyu" in 2026

The first energy was planned to be produced in April 2025

The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, confirmed that the launch of the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP will be carried out in 2026. Earlier, the Minister of Energy of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, reported on plans to put the first reactor into operation.

Likhachev noted that the construction of the NPP was subjected to significant difficulties due to sanctions against Russia. This concerned the disruption of the payment system and the refusal of Siemens to supply the already paid equipment.

Therefore, we were engaged in import substitution "on the fly", using Russian solutions and solutions from friendly countries.

Rosatom had to look for additional sources of financing for the project, taking into account the frozen $2 billion. Likhachev stressed that despite serious problems, the state corporation is making every effort to launch the station in 2026.
