FPC to expand the network of double-decker train routes in 2026

The launch of a train on the Moscow — Yaroslavl route is being considered

The Federal Passenger Company (FPC), a subsidiary of Russian Railways, plans to expand the network of double-decker train routes in 2026. This was announced by the company's CEO, Vladimir Pyastolov, at the PRO//Motion forum.

According to him, in the coming year, the company is forming an updated route network, and the launch of a double-decker train on the Moscow — Yaroslavl route is being considered, similar to the existing routes, for example, Moscow — Nizhny Novgorod.

FPC's double-decker trains are modern high-speed trains with compartment cars and sleeping cars, running between major cities in Russia. One compartment car can accommodate up to 64 passengers, which is almost twice as many as in ordinary cars. The trains are equipped with air conditioning, bio-toilets, Wi-Fi, sockets and USB ports in each compartment. Access to the cars is provided by magnetic cards, and video surveillance is installed.

Currently, double-decker trains run on key routes: Moscow — St. Petersburg, Moscow — Adler, Moscow — Kislovodsk, Moscow — Kazan, Moscow — Samara, St. Petersburg — Adler, as well as on routes to Voronezh, Bryansk, Petrozavodsk, Izhevsk, Ulyanovsk, Cheboksary and Yoshkar-Ola. The trains are popular due to their high capacity, comfort and lower price when booking early, as they are included in the dynamic pricing system.
