The Black Sea waters can be protected from unmanned surface vessels (USV) if emphasis is placed on a combination of radar aviation and strike aircraft. This proposal was made by a retired military pilot and author of the popular Telegram channel Fighterbomber.
According to him, it is necessary to involve Ka-31R long-range radar detection helicopters and Su-34 bomber crews. For example, the rotorcraft was originally created for naval reconnaissance and the search for surface targets, the ex-military pilot noted.
Five Ka-31Rs and a flight of Su-34s with an onboard reconnaissance system completely close the issue of round-the-clock and all-weather detection of USVs in the Black Sea. And if you attach Il-38 and A-50, ground-based radars and ship stations to them, then the issue of detecting something on the sea surface should not even arise.
The pilot recalled that the Ka-31 was produced in two versions — the naval Ka-31R and the land-based Ka-35, where the radar equipment is already "tuned" to detect ground targets.

It should be noted that the Ka-31 is equipped with the E-801E(M) Oko complex with a rotating antenna 5.75 m long, located under the fuselage. It is capable of detecting surface targets of the "ship" type at a range of up to 250 km.
