Mi-24 Attacked, Mi-8 Rescued, Ka-27PL Hunted: Baltic Fleet Drills Held

Helicopter crews practiced searching, tracking, and attacking a mock enemy from the air

Planned training flights of helicopter crews of the Baltic Fleet naval aviation took place in the Kaliningrad region. The exercises involved Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopters, multi-purpose Mi-8s, and Mi-24 attack helicopters.

Ka-27PL crews completed a full cycle of anti-submarine operations: from detecting an underwater target to simulating its destruction. Using onboard sonar systems and radio sonobuoys, the helicopters practiced searching for and tracking an "enemy" submarine, after which they conducted mock attacks using anti-submarine weapons.

Mi-24 attack helicopters focused on tactical reconnaissance and ground support tasks: pilots practiced takeoffs and landings, flew routes to specified areas of the Baltic Sea to monitor the surface situation, and conducted training strikes against ground targets of a mock enemy.

Multi-purpose Mi-8s, in turn, practiced low-altitude flights along complex routes and exercises in search and rescue operations, which confirms their readiness to perform a wide range of tasks — from transporting personnel to evacuation in emergency situations.
