Rosatom's fuel division has made the first shipment of fuel assemblies (FAs) for the initial loading of the VVER-1000 reactor at Kudankulam NPP Unit 3 in India.
The first batch of fuel, produced at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (NCCP), was delivered to India by a special cargo flight.
Under the contract for the complete set of the reactor core and the creation of a reserve fuel supply, seven flights from Russia are planned.
Units 3 and 4, the second stage of the plant, will be the first VVER-1000 reactors in the world to be launched immediately in an 18-month fuel cycle, which will increase economic efficiency and reduce the number of shutdowns for refueling.
