The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation predicts that by 2035, Russian cars will occupy about 80% of the domestic market. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov in an interview with Business Online.
According to Karimov, the planned production of passenger cars in the country will reach 1.6 million cars per year. At the same time, the total market will be approximately two million cars, and the share of imported cars will decrease to 400 thousand units.
In particular, we are talking not only about traditional domestic brands such as Lada and Aurus, but also about companies that produce adapted versions of foreign models. For example, the Tenet brand assembles cars identical to Chery at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga.
If we have several players with an annual production volume of 300 thousand to 500 thousand cars, this will allow such enterprises, developing new technologies, in partnership with colleagues from friendly countries, to maintain the necessary level of competition and create our own technological brands.
Karimov emphasized that the Russian market ranks 4-6th in Europe and 11-12th in the world in terms of volume, which makes it large enough to form serious manufacturers.
