The crew of the minesweeper "Afanasy Ivannikov" of the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet successfully completed the elements of the K-2 course task in the Barents Sea. During the exercises, the sailors practiced the actions of a single ship for its intended purpose in naval training grounds.
As part of the exercises, the crew searched for mines in a given area using various types of trawls. Exercises were conducted on air defense and anti-sabotage defense, as well as on the fight for the survivability of the ship during the transition and stay in an unprotected roadstead.
In addition, combat crews performed artillery firing at sea targets simulating an unmanned boat and a floating mine. The exercises took place in an area of the Barents Sea closed to navigation.
"Afanasy Ivannikov" is the newest minesweeper of Project 12700 "Alexandrite", which arrived in the Northern Fleet in August 2025. The ship is equipped with modern means to combat mines, including various trawls and underwater vehicles. The minesweeper is named in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union Captain Lieutenant Afanasy Ivanovich Ivannikov, who commanded the T-115 minesweeper during the Great Patriotic War.
