The reactor vessel for the first power unit has arrived at the construction site of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Egypt. The equipment, manufactured at the Izhora plant (a division of Rosatom), weighs over 330 tons.
The installation of the reactor vessel is scheduled for mid-November, and our teams are working tirelessly to achieve this key milestone of the project.
The reactor vessel is a key element of the reactor installation, inside which the core is located and a controlled chain reaction of nuclear fuel fission occurs. It ensures tightness, withstands high pressures and temperatures, guaranteeing the safety and reliability of the power unit.
The ATTU cargo ship delivered the equipment from St. Petersburg to the specialized port of the El Dabaa NPP construction site, built by the Egyptian side to receive oversized equipment, in 20 days.
"El Dabaa NPP" is the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, being built in the city of El Dabaa (in the Matrouh Governorate). It is being built by Rosatom on the northern coast of the country, 3.5 km from the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 300 kilometers northwest of Cairo.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the particularly strong outer containment shell of the VVER-1200 reactor began to be erected at the Leningrad NPP-2.
