The Federation Council expressed an initiative to allow parent-teacher meetings in schools to be held online. Deputy Head of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, Ekaterina Altabayeva, emphasized that although personal communication with teachers is extremely important, in exceptional cases such a format may be permissible.
A request was sent to the Head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, asking him to work on introducing amendments to the law on education. Direct communication with the teacher, especially with the class teacher, is mandatory for parents.
According to her, in exceptional cases, when parents have gone on a business trip or are ill and cannot personally attend the meeting, the online format is acceptable. After all, it is important for parents to know how their child is doing in school and to receive recommendations from teachers.
The senator also expressed the opinion that each educational institution can decide independently how to hold parent-teacher meetings. There is no need to wait for a new rule in the law for this. Altabayeva emphasized that the current legislation already contains provisions that imply the active participation of parents in discussing topical issues of education.
