In Moscow, a 16-year-old girl became a victim of fraudsters. She gave them 12.3 million rubles. According to Vladimir Vasenin, head of the information and public relations department of the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the criminals posed as government officials.
The criminals called the girl and reported that her personal account on the "Gosuslugi" portal had been hacked. Under the pretext of "avoiding criminal liability," the attackers persuaded the girl to "declare" family finances and valuables.
As a result, the misled schoolgirl handed over a package with cash in rubles and foreign currency, as well as jewelry and other valuables belonging to her father, through taxi drivers. The total damage amounted to about 12.3 million rubles.
Vasenin also announced the detention of a 20-year-old resident of Moscow who acted as an intermediary in this scheme. The suspect collected money and valuables from taxi drivers, pawned the jewelry and sent the cash to accomplices via courier delivery. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and the defendant is under a recognizance not to leave.
