Banks supported the ban on special discounts on marketplaces

Credit organizations advocated for equal payment terms on platforms

Russian banks supported the initiative of the Federation Council to ban discounts in marketplaces when paying with their cards and electronic wallets. Their position was voiced by such credit organizations as Sberbank, "Alfa-Bank", VTB and others.

Banks insist that Wildberries and other platforms provide them access to their services on the same terms as the marketplace's subsidiary banks. This will allow customers to choose convenient payment methods. As noted by the first deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Ivan Abramov, now whoever controls the payment of purchases dictates the rules of the game, and this should not be the case.

In contrast to this, Wildberries and the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) argue that this initiative restricts the market. They emphasize that discounts and cashback have become an integral part of the competitive environment. Representatives of online retailers believe that the introduction of restrictions will negatively affect consumers.

On October 8, the Federation Council published a resolution within the framework of the "government hour" with the participation of the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. In it, the senators recommended that the government change the law on the platform economy to prohibit online retailers from offering discounts when paying with cards.
