On the night of October 8, a massive failure occurred in Russia in the system of electronic vehicle passports (EVTS). Documents issued for vehicles of individuals in September began to be canceled without explanation.
The failure affected hundreds of cars across the country — from Vladivostok to Moscow. Some cars have already been registered with the traffic police. Representatives of certification laboratories believe that the cause of the problem could be a software failure.
We are trying to figure it out, but it is not yet clear what happened: some kind of failure either on the part of the EVTS or from customs. We reassure customers, temporarily suspend the processing of new passports until everything becomes clear.
Vehicle owners are advised not to panic and not to take drastic action until the situation becomes clear. In the Vladivostok traffic police, they began to refuse to register cars with canceled passports, but re-payment of the state fee is not required, and the inspection remains valid for 30 days.
Later, information appeared that the cause of the failure was incorrect information from customs. It is alleged that canceled passports, after the error is corrected, will again receive a valid status, however, when the problem will be resolved is still unknown.
