Russia may have new hypersonic weapons, work in this direction is underway. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the Valdai Forum on October 2.
Just recently, we showed that these types of weapons are not strategic. We need to figure this out. We have another hypersonic weapon, Kinzhal, and there is also the Avangard intercontinental-range weapon.
The Russian leader also stated that some countries are preparing nuclear tests, which Moscow is aware of. If they conduct them, Russia will do the same, he added.
Putin said that Russia is confident in its nuclear shield. According to him, the level of modernity of Russian strategic forces is higher than that of any other nuclear power, and the Russian Federation has more tactical weapons than the United States.
The Kinzhal complex includes a 9-S-7760 hypersonic aeroballistic missile, which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, and an aircraft from which it is launched - the MiG-31K fighter. It can also be installed on the Tu-22M3 long-range bomber and the Su-34 supersonic fighter-bomber. The speed of this missile is more than 10 Mach, it hits targets at a distance of more than 2 thousand km. The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly reported on the use of the complex in Ukraine.
Avangard is a strategic missile system with an intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a hypersonic warhead. The missile is capable of reaching a speed of 27 Mach (about 33 thousand km/h). Putin stated that with the creation of this weapon, Russia "zeroed out" Washington's investments in the missile defense system.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the development of the Russian superweapon, the Alabuga electromagnetic complex, continues.
