Remote voting without the Internet: a new method is already being tested

The project will allow voting in remote locations using satellite communications

The Central Election Commission of Russia has launched an experiment to introduce and use remote electronic voting (REV) in elections in places where there is no Internet access, using satellite communications. This was announced by the Chairman of the CEC, Ella Pamfilova.

Another area — we are now working with Bureau 1440 to introduce remote voting where there is no Internet, that is, using satellite communications. We are now launching a pilot project with them.

According to Pamfilova, the commission conducted several pilot projects aimed at creating more convenient and secure voting for voters in remote and inaccessible areas of the country.

We have 36 regions that have the status of hard-to-reach, remote. Where we usually get to polar stations and so on — it's very difficult there. Taking this into account, the state is doing a lot to reach everyone: reindeer herders, polar explorers, sailors, and so on. But one vote there costs about 400 times more than the average for Russia
