Russian MiG-31BM interceptor fighters provided cover for strategic aviation crews on Tu-22M3 aircraft as part of the Zapad-2025 exercises, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
A pair of MiG-31BMs provided fighter escort along the flight route for long-range aviation crews on Tu-22M3 aircraft.
The interceptor crews set up barriers in the air in the area of the strike on a mock enemy at one of the training grounds, the Ministry of Defense noted.
On the command of the on-duty forces, a pair of fighters was scrambled from an operational airfield. During the practice of the episode, the pilots received coordinates from the calculations of radio engineering units, entered the specified area, independently determined the classification, and intercepted the aerial target.
Combat training tasks were carried out taking into account the combat experience gained during the special military operation, the department emphasized.
