Deputies propose issuing "Dostoevsky Card" to teenagers for buying books

The card can be used to buy classics, domestic literature, and popular science

The State Duma has proposed launching a new cultural project — the "Dostoevsky Card" for teenagers aged 14 to 18. It will be a personalized bank card with an annual top-up of 10,000 rubles, which can only be spent on books.

According to the idea of the initiative's author, State Duma Vice-Speaker Boris Chernyshov (LDPR), the funds can be used for classical literature, works by contemporary Russian authors, historical and popular science literature.

Priority is planned to be given to domestic publishers. Books of low artistic quality, publications promoting violence, extremism, or other information restricted for children will be prohibited for purchase.

The initiative has been sent to the Ministry of Culture. According to Chernyshov, the project will help support teenagers' interest in reading, give an incentive to domestic publishers and bookstores, and will also contribute to strengthening Russia's cultural sovereignty.
