From September 1, a law will come into force in Russia prohibiting the transfer of SIM cards to third parties. This was reported to the Prime agency by Anastasia Yakovleva, a lawyer at the MKA "Советник-Центр".
According to her, you can buy SIM cards only for yourself and close relatives — spouses, children, parents, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers and grandchildren. It is forbidden to transfer a SIM card to friends, colleagues or neighbors.
A fine is provided for violation: for citizens — up to 50 thousand rubles, for legal entities — up to 200 thousand rubles.
Exceptions apply to cases of short-term transfer of a SIM card for a personal call or providing it to employees of emergency services and government agencies when necessary.
As Yakovleva notes, the purpose of the law is to reduce the level of telephone fraud. Attackers abroad use other people's SIM cards to pass off calls as Russian, send false messages, and even illegally apply for loans.
