Yandex Maps and 2GIS Learn to Show Real-Time Traffic Light Signals in Moscow

Applications warn about red lights and help plan trips

Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigator have started displaying real-time traffic light signals within the Garden Ring and in the Savelovsky, Airport, Orekhovo-Borisovo, Maryino, and Tsaritsyno districts.

Yandex applications show the color of the nearest traffic light and the time until the signal changes, and warn with a sound when approaching a red signal. The information comes from the Moscow Traffic Management Center (TsODD) and is taken into account when building a route. In the future, it is planned to calculate a "green wave" - a route with a minimum number of stops at a red light.

A similar function appeared in the 2GIS navigator: traffic light timers are displayed inside the Third Transport Ring and in several districts of Moscow. The navigator shows the current signal and timer in real time, which increases the safety and comfort of trips, especially if the traffic light is blocked by other vehicles.
