Scientists at Rosneft have developed an advanced technology for detecting oil spills. It should significantly improve the effectiveness of environmental protection measures in the oil industry.
According to Rosneft, the new technology allows for accurate differentiation between natural bodies of water and types of oil spills. This will allow for a more effective response to potential environmental threats.
In the first half of 2025, the number of incidents related to the safety of technological processes significantly decreased, the oil company said. The frequency of incidents involving equipment depressurization with severe first-level consequences decreased by 52% compared to the same period in 2024, and second-level consequences decreased by 22%.
Over the six months, no cases of oil, gas, or water discharge to the surface during well drilling were recorded at Rosneft facilities. As part of the program to minimize oil and petroleum product spills, measures were also taken to replace field pipelines.
