The Keldysh Center (part of Roscosmos State Corporation) presented a model of a transport and energy module (TEM) at the "Atom. Future" exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod. This unique development, which has no analogues in the world, is designed for interplanetary flights.
The module, also known as a "space tug," is designed for interorbital and interplanetary cargo transportation, as well as for powering scientific equipment. It will enable missions to the Moon, Mars, the gas giant planets, and beyond the Solar System. The actual dimensions of the projected spacecraft are comparable to the size of a football field.
The "Atom. Future" exhibition opened on August 21 in the exhibition warehouse of Nizhny Novgorod. The exposition is dedicated to the technologies of the future based on atomic science. In addition to the TEM, the exhibition features models of nuclear icebreakers, power plants, space rockets, and developments in the field of biotechnology.
The transport and energy module is seen as the basis for creating advanced new-generation space systems. Its demonstration aims to familiarize the general public with the prospects of using nuclear technologies in space.
