The fate of American nuclear fuel at the Zaporozhye NPP may be decided during negotiations in Alaska

The station has been under Russian control since 2022

The head of the Rosatom state corporation, Alexei Likhachev, said that the fate of American nuclear fuel at the Zaporozhye NPP could be decided at negotiations between Russia and the United States.

Likhachev noted that the Russian side is ready to discuss the future of the fuel both in the reactors and in the station's storage facilities. Previously, the United States expressed concern about this issue, and the response was transmitted through diplomatic channels and the IAEA.

The head of Rosatom also said that as part of preparations for the negotiations, he informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP. This will help shape the position at the upcoming meetings.

We report to the president on the state of affairs at the power plant, on our plans for its further use, for the development of the ZNPP. In a sense, perhaps, we are forming part of the negotiating positions between the United States and Russia.
Alexei Likhachev, head of the Rosatom state corporation
