Will Work Some More: Russia and the US to Continue Joint Work on the ISS Until 2030

Roscosmos Deputy Head Sergei Krikalev: the station is planned to be deorbited no earlier than 2030

Russia and the United States will continue cooperation within the International Space Station (ISS) program at least until 2030. The main task will be the controlled deorbiting of the station. This was announced by Roscosmos Deputy Head Sergei Krikalev.

Even if we stop normal operation, it will mean that it is time to start deorbiting. And working together, we found a deorbiting profile that will take about two years. So we will have to work together at least until we flood it - and this will be no earlier than 2030.
Sergei Krikalev, Deputy Head of Roscosmos, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in Space

The ISS has been operating since 1998. Its operation has been extended repeatedly, but the station's resource is limited. The flooding is planned to be carried out in the Pacific Ocean, where the remains of other spacecraft already rest.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Roscosmos and NASA have agreed on the approximate timing of the ISS operation.
