The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, confirmed that the decision to end the operation of the International Space Station can only be made jointly by Russia and the United States. In an interview with RBC TV, he noted that both sides agree on the need to maintain the station until 2028, and possibly longer.
The ISS has been in orbit since 1998. Its mass is about 435 tons, and with docked ships - up to 470 tons. The project involves Russia, the USA, Canada, Japan and 10 countries of the European Space Agency.
In April, Roscosmos and NASA agreed to synchronize the timing of the station's operation.
