Russia is recording an oversupply of freight vehicles: since the beginning of 2025, the carrying capacity of carriers has exceeded the actual demand for cargo delivery by 44%. This is 9 percentage points more than in the same period last year.
According to a study by PEC and the United Leasing Association, up to 10,000 semi-trailer trucks previously leased may return to the market.
The oversupply of trucks is due to massive purchases in previous years amid expectations of rapid logistics growth. However, cargo traffic in 2025 is growing slowly, which has led to an imbalance between the amount of equipment and market needs.
Against the backdrop of these problems, the State Duma is considering a bill that prohibits transportation from anonymous customers and introduces a register of responsible carriers. Without registration in it, companies will not be able to use heavy trucks.
