At the Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University (NovSU), a "smart home" system has been developed to automate the management of household appliances and improve the level of security. This was reported by the press service of the university.
The uniqueness of this development lies in its cross-platform nature. This makes it easy to combine various devices and sensors into a single ecosystem and make decisions about performing tasks without human intervention. The development is also more affordable compared to analogues on the market.
For example, Yandex's smart home is best paired with the corporation's products and services, while Rostelecom's "Security" or AJAX StarterKit black come with their own equipment, which leads to inconvenience and unnecessary expenses. Therefore, we wanted to create our own affordable, modular, and flexible solution. As a result, we have a system that will save energy resources, remotely control lighting, heating, household appliances, and notify of emergencies, if any occur.
The system is characterized by a high degree of automation, allowing the implementation of complex scenarios and the setting of presets that work in a single logic. The developers noted that it will be easy for the user to set up a smart home without spending a lot of time installing and linking all the elements of the system from scratch.
The system includes a microcontroller, a control platform, motion, leakage, gas, smoke, opening, and temperature sensors, as well as modules for smart sockets and switches. The advantage of the development is simplified integration with devices from various manufacturers.
The smart home system may be of interest not only to owners of residential premises, but also to businesses. It will allow automating the security system in offices, small hotels and hostels, as well as remotely monitoring premises and optimizing energy costs.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in Russia a state standard for "smart home" has appeared.
