The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy and the American bank Citi have signed an important partnership agreement that will provide financing for the construction of two new power units at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant. Citi will act as the exclusive coordinator and lead arranger of export credit financing.
The American company Westinghouse will participate in the construction of the new units. This will be the first time their AP1000 reactors are used in Europe.
Vadim Ivanov, General Director of "Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities" company, emphasized that thanks to Citi's experience and connections, Bulgaria will be able to ensure sustainable and affordable energy supply for future generations.
The participation of an American bank in such a large-scale project could be a turning point for the entire Eastern Europe in the field of nuclear energy.
Kozloduy NPP is located on the bank of the Danube River. It was built in the 1970s and has since played an important role in providing electricity to the country.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that American fuel was loaded into the Soviet reactor of the Kozloduy NPP.
