Alikhanov: "Aging" fleet requires renewal

The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has proposed limiting the lifespan of "dilapidated" ships in order to increase the volume of orders for new ones. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation supports this idea, said the head of the department, Anton Alikhanov.

Modernization of the "Krasnoye Sormovo" plant

According to him, the initiative really promises additional orders for Russian shipyards. However, this issue should also be discussed by representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, who are responsible for the safety of navigation, Alikhanov stressed.

But in all industries we have certain service lives - aircraft, railway rolling stock. We believe that it would be logical to extend the same rules to ships.

The Minister stressed that Russia has "a rather aging fleet, and it needs to be updated." In any case, solving this problem will require support from the state, including funds for leasing.
