From July 5, 2025, changes to the rules of compulsory motor insurance regarding payments under the Europrotocol come into force in Russia. The compensation limit in the presence of disagreements between drivers, but with mandatory photo fixation, will increase from 100 thousand to 200 thousand rubles. However, not all drivers will be able to take advantage of the increased payment - there are a number of important conditions.
When can I apply for the Europrotocol?
- Only two cars are involved.
- Both drivers have a valid compulsory motor insurance policy.
- There are no injuries or damage to third party property.
If the circumstances of the accident do not cause disputes, the maximum payment will be 400 thousand rubles (provided that it is recorded through mobile applications, for example, "OSAGO Assistant" or "Gosuslugi Auto").
If there are disagreements, but photo fixation has been carried out, the limit will be 200 thousand rubles (previously - 100 thousand). If the drivers argue and do not record the accident, the compensation will remain at the same level - up to 100 thousand rubles.
The Europrotocol is becoming an indispensable tool for modern Russian drivers, allowing them to save time and effort in the event of an accident (involving two cars and causing damage only to vehicles). By processing an accident on their own, drivers significantly reduce the waiting time for representatives of the authorities, as well as reduce the burden on traffic on the roads, minimizing congestion.
According to the Central Bank, in 2024, 40% of accidents were processed under the Europrotocol, while 80% of payments did not exceed 100 thousand rubles. The Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RSA) reports that in the first five months of 2025, 350 thousand accidents were registered under the simplified scheme (41.8% of the total number).
