Import-Substituted Production of Machines for SMD PCB Assembly Launched in Russia

Expert Group has launched mass production of an automatic component installer for PCBs with support for domestic and Western standards

Mass production of the PiPlacer8 automatic SMD component installer, developed by JSC EXPERT GROUP, has begun in Russia. The equipment is designed for high-speed mounting of electronic components on printed circuit boards and is positioned as a modern alternative to imported counterparts.

According to the Skolkovo Foundation, which supported the project through the Microelectronics program, PiPlacer8 has a positioning accuracy of up to ±35 microns and is capable of installing up to 15,000 components per hour. The machine supports a wide range of sizes — from miniature 0201 to large 40×40 mm elements, and is also equipped with a machine vision-based error control system.

Compared to European solutions, it offers localized service and specialized software optimized for the requirements of Russian electronic industry enterprises.
Vitaly Mikhailovsky, Director of JSC EXPERT GROUP

Kirill Kaem, Managing Director of Skolkovo, notes that the equipment can compete not only in the Russian but also in the international market. The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and is aimed at developing domestic technologies in microelectronics.
