India is unlikely to be able to purchase fifth-generation F-35 fighters from the United States as long as it continues to use Russian S-400 air defense systems (ADS). This was reported by The National Interest (TNI) magazine.
A problem may arise: India has begun operating the Russian S-400 air defense system, which is incompatible with the stealth fighter, which Washington and NATO have warned Delhi about.
Previously, the United States refused to supply F-35 fighters to Turkey due to Russian S-400 systems.
Characteristics of the S-400 air defense system:
- Speed of targets hit - 4800 m/s.
- Number of simultaneously engaged targets - 36.
- Target detection range - 600 km.
- Number of simultaneously guided missiles - 72.
- Maximum target engagement altitude - 35 thousand m.
- Engagement range - 250 km.
India is also discussing the purchase of S-500 Prometey anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) from Russia. These systems surpass the S-400 in terms of technology, versatility and range. Given the long-term cooperation between the countries in the field of defense, the conclusion of such a deal is not excluded.
