Russia Allocates Radio Frequency Band for 5G: Ministry of Digital Affairs to Hold Auctions for Telecom Operators

First auctions to be held by the end of 2025

The Russian State Commission on Radio Frequencies has allocated the 4800-4990 MHz frequency range for the construction of fifth-generation (5G) communication networks, according to the Ministry of Digital Affairs of Russia.

Following the commission's meeting, the ministry clarified that an order on holding auctions for frequencies in the specified range will be approved based on this decision. The document will establish the terms of the auction and the starting price of the lots.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Maksut Shadaev, reported that the first auctions for operators for 5G frequencies are planned to be held by the end of 2025. The proceeds will be used to support the construction and development of fifth-generation networks in Russia.

The 3400–3800 MHz frequency range, called the "golden" range, is considered optimal for providing high-speed data transmission in 5G networks. The Ministry of Digital Affairs allows the possibility of using these frequencies in some regions of Russia.
