Engineers from the Vympel Design Bureau have developed a concept project for a new generation tug 1741NG. The vessel can work with the existing barge fleet. This was reported by the press service of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
The new vessel is a modern analogue of the 1741 project tugs, which were developed in the early 70s at the Vympel Design Bureau.
The vessels of project 1741NG are designed for pushing and towing non-self-propelled vessels, dry cargo and oil barges. It can be operated at a wave height of up to 2 m.
Currently, there are about 414 pusher tugs in Russia, with an age ranging from 30 to 55 years. USC expects that new generation tugs will replace the outdated ones.
