USC to Build New Shipyard in Primorye: Announced by Head of Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East at SPIEF-2025

The corporation plans to strengthen the construction of ice-class vessels for the Northern Sea Route

The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) continues to develop infrastructure for the construction of specialized vessels capable of operating in harsh ice conditions. According to the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, Alexey Chekunkov, a new shipyard will appear in Primorye, complementing the existing Zvezda shipyard.

The Zvezda shipyard has already been built and is successfully operating in the Far East for the construction of ice-class vessels. A decision has been made that USC will build another shipyard there, in Primorye.

The project has already been presented to the President and is aimed at increasing capacity for servicing the Northern Sea Route. Chekunkov also noted that the creation of a similar enterprise is being considered in the Arkhangelsk region, given the presence of a shipbuilding cluster (Sevmash, Zvezdochka) and suitable marine areas.

Given the availability of all competencies there, given the availability of land plots with the necessary marine areas, I believe that the creation of another such shipyard in the Arkhangelsk region is justified.

Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov reported that USC is preparing a feasibility study for the Far Eastern shipyard, which should be completed by the end of 2025.
