The pouring of the "first concrete" at the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary has been postponed to 2026. This was announced by the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
We don't want any more delays. Rosatom is also ready. I hope the first concrete will be poured next year. The political circumstances in the world are not healthy at all.
The Paks-2 project includes the construction of two new power units No. 5 and No. 6 with reactors based on the Russian VVER-1200 project. Russia will provide Hungary with a state loan of up to 10 billion euros, and the total cost of the project will be 12.5 billion euros. The construction license for the power units was issued in 2022, and in May 2025, the European Commission approved amendments to the construction and financing agreements. The start of construction of Paks-2 was expected to take place in late 2024 - early 2025.
