The Ministry of Sports of Russia has announced a large-scale purchase of gaming equipment worth almost 500 million rubles. According to documents on the public procurement portal, the department plans to equip phygital centers in 15 cities across the country, including Vladivostok, Saratov, Kaliningrad, and Ivanovo. The list of equipment includes game consoles, powerful PCs, VR headsets, and specialized software.
The phygital movement is a symbiosis of real sports and digital technologies, where physical actions directly affect virtual gameplay.
The tender documentation specifies strict technical characteristics. For game consoles, 8-core processors with a frequency of 3.5 GHz, 16 GB of GDDR6 video memory, and a 1 TB SSD are required. These parameters clearly indicate PlayStation 5, since Xbox Series X does not meet the criteria due to the insufficient number of buttons on the controller (16 vs. 15). Each set includes 4 gamepads and a 4K TV, and the total cost of purchasing consoles will be about 226 million rubles.
For phygital disciplines, 283 gaming computers with Intel Core i7/i9 processors (12 cores, 20 threads, frequency from 5 GHz) and NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti-level video cards (8 GB GDDR6X) will also be required. A mandatory condition is liquid cooling (LCS), which indicates an orientation towards high-performance systems. At the same time, the choice of Intel instead of AMD processors, which are more popular among gamers, raises questions among experts.
A separate budget is allocated for VR equipment (684 thousand rubles per set) and licensed software for simulating drone flights. The software will run on the Russian OS Astra Linux.
