Scammers Target Education and Healthcare: Fake Work Chats Become New Threat

Attackers offer victims registration in alleged work chatbots

Employees in the fields of education and medicine are increasingly becoming victims of scammers who use fake work chats to deceive. Attackers create group chats with the names of real organizations. Accounts appear in them, posing as colleagues, and sometimes even real employees who are unaware of the substitution.

The fake head of such a chat gives urgent instructions. For example, victims are offered to register in a specific "corporate" bot to complete an important task or obtain data. Employees receive a message with a confirmation code, and fake accounts pretend to show it to the manager. As a result, victims, seeing the "approval of the authorities" and the "example of colleagues," send their confidential codes, which opens access to their personal information.

The police emphasize that the fields of education and medicine are under special scrutiny by scammers. The fact is that information about employees is often available on the official websites of schools, universities, and hospitals. Therefore, it is convenient for attackers to create fake accounts and mislead gullible employees.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges employees to be attentive and careful, to verify information, and not to send their confirmation codes, even if they come from seemingly familiar colleagues or managers. It is important to remember that real requests for confidential information will never be sent through unofficial communication channels.
