Over the next few years, the Russian fleet of strategic bombers may increase by almost two dozen serviceable combat aircraft. The country has invested significant funds in the repair and deep modernization of Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers.
According to open sources, the Ministry of Defense approved the overhaul of six Tu-95MS bombers in March. The contract was concluded with the 360th Aviation Repair Plant (Ryazan) and the Beriev Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex (Taganrog).
In addition, the Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant is working on seven Tu-160 aircraft at once. Among these aircraft, four Tu-160s are already undergoing deep modernization, which is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the world's largest Mi-26T helicopter was decommissioned after 12 years of storage.
