A new trademark, Defeitu, intended for motor vehicles, has been registered in Russia.
The name of the copyright holder is not officially disclosed — the Rospatent database indicates that publication is restricted by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1209 dated September 2, 2024. This has led to speculation about a possible connection between the brand and AvtoVAZ: the company has already used a similar secrecy mechanism when applying for the Lada Azimut trademark.
Of particular interest is the similarity of the name Defeitu to the Chinese brand Defetoo — a technology company involved in the restart of automobile production at the former Volkswagen plant in Russia. There, AGR is going to produce Chery crossovers under the Tenet brand. Against this background, Defeitu looks like a potential element of a new alliance or project scheme involving the Chinese side.
There is no official information about future models or brand plans yet, but the registration of the trademark indicates preparations for the launch of a new automotive project. Against the background of the rapid restructuring of the Russian automotive industry and the attraction of foreign partners, the appearance of Defeitu may become part of a broader strategy to restore and rethink the automotive industry in the country.
