For the Restoration of Nuclear Medicine: Rosatom Sends Technetium-99m Generators to Kyrgyzstan for the First Time

Technetium-99m is used in 80% for the diagnosis of oncological diseases

Rosatom has for the first time supplied Kyrgyzstan with technetium-99m generators designed to produce a radionuclide used in nuclear medicine for the diagnosis of oncological diseases, the state corporation's press service reported.

Technetium-99m generators
Technetium-99m generators of the GT-5K type are produced by the Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry. The All-Regional Association "Isotop" will carry out regular deliveries of generators to the National Center of Oncology and Hematology in Bishkek within the framework of the national project of the technical cooperation program of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) "Restoration of Nuclear Medicine in Kyrgyzstan" and under the Agency's "Rays of Hope" program.

Technetium-99m generators of the GT-5K type allow obtaining one of the most demanded radionuclides in the field of medicine. Technetium-99m is used in 80% of diagnostic procedures of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). This makes it an indispensable tool for detecting oncological, cardiological, neuroendocrine and other diseases.

The SPECT method helps to visualize the thyroid gland, heart, bone tissue, lungs, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, allowing the detection of metastases and other pathological changes at an early stage.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Rosatom will begin construction of small nuclear power plants in the near future.
