The State Commission has completed flight tests of the Ionosphere-M spacecraft No. 1 and No. 2, recommending their commissioning. Developed by VNIIEM Corporation (part of Roscosmos), these satellites will become key elements of the Ionosond system, designed to monitor "space weather."
Ionosond is a specialized space system created to monitor processes in the ionosphere, a layer of the atmosphere critical for radio communications, navigation, and the safety of space flights. The devices are equipped with modern instruments capable of recording changes in the plasma environment, magnetic field, and solar activity.
According to VNIIEM, the system will provide operational data on "space weather," which is especially important for predicting its impact on the operation of satellites, aviation, and energy systems. Ionosphere-M uses improved sensors compared to previous generations, which increases the accuracy of measurements.
