Russians will be able to pay with “Mir” cards while traveling to Iran. The Central Bank of Iran has announced the completion of the second phase of integration of the Russian payment system “Mir” with the Iranian Shetab.
Now, “Mir” cardholders can use NFC payments in the country, including small purchases without the need to enter a PIN code. This function is also available for payments via the Mir Pay application. P
Users of smartphones on the Android operating system will be able to make purchases at certain retail outlets, the Central Bank of Iran specified. Small transactions via Mir Pay at Shaparak terminals will be possible without entering a code, while larger purchases will require its entry.
The pilot project for accepting “Mir” cards in Iran was launched on April 22, 2024, and in November of the same year, the Iranian payment system Shetab officially connected “Mir” to its resources.
Moscow and Caracas are also discussing expanding the acceptance of “Mir” cards in Venezuela and the possibility of their issuance by local banks. According to Ambassador Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov, the cards of the Russian payment system are currently accepted in 25 thousand retail outlets in Venezuela.
